Machine Quilting Workshop by Judy Holley/CANCELLED
This 6-week course is designed to help students develop the skills, muscle control and coordination needed for successful machine quilting, both straight-line and free motion. The weekly 2-hour class sessions will be devoted to specific skills with the added benefit of classroom drill on a practice piece.
Judy will review the course outline in detail in the first session. Topics covered will be 1)basting & grid quilting 2)ditch stitching & stabilizing 3)free motion on a doodle sandwich 4)spirals, shells, fans, echo 5)flowers, leaves, feathers, parallel lines & crosshatching 6)putting it all together
For homework, students will apply these skills to an actual quilt of their own at home on their own time.
NOTE: The first class usually runs 3 hours
Supply List (10% Student Discount on class supply list purchase at MY Sewing Shoppe)
-Sewing machine in good working order! Have it serviced if necessary & clean bobbin area before coming to class. Bring all attachments, foot control/power cord & instruction manual. Extension cords provided or you may bring your own.
-Darning foot for free motion is required
-Walking foot (even feed) for grid quilting, optional. Open toe embroidery foot or satin foot can be used instead.
-Quilt guide arm for your machine is available.
-Sewing machine needles in assorted sizes. (needle size depends on thread)
-Safety pins for basting, approx. 200-300
-Assortment of fabric markers: chalk, water-soluble pen, quilter's marking pencils, mechanical pencil, soap slivers, etc.
-Long ruler for marking a line or grid.
-Basic sewing supplies: needles, thread, pins, sea ripper, scissors, etc.
-Masking tape
-Thread
-Batting: you will need cotton batting such as Hobbs Heirloom Cotton *80/20), Warm & Natural Dream Cotton, etc. No polyester of fat batt!! Buy a large piece & cut up.
-Doodle Quilt, a basted muslin sandwich. Buy 2 yds muslin ad use it for front & back. (Caution: Some people practice a lot and go through several). This is for classroom practice & drill on free motion. Not needed for the first class!
-Snacks (optional)
