Tamarack Jacket

In our first session we will be discussing many different aspects of the jacket, taking measurements and determining what size fits best. The Tamarack is designed to be worn as an outer layer to your favorite run around clothes, it has lots of ease and it's not intended to be fitted. You will need to decide on view A or B. There can be slight adjustments made to the fit, such as shortening or lengthening the sleeves and depending on your height you may also want to adjust at the waist longer or shorter. In the second half of our afternoon, we will trace out our patterns and begin the process of cutting all three layers of our jackets.

So, gather your fabrics and ideas and get creative. Lots of ideas and jackets on Instagram to look at.

All fabric needs to be washed in cold water and pressed before first class.

Supplies for first session: Day 1
Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studios NOTE: there are two different patterns one with darts and one without. (if the hood or collar is wanted that is a PDF add on and can only be purchased on Grainline Studios website)

Things to bring to class: Easy Pattern tracing paper Pellon product (PP830 for tracing) Tape measure #2 pencil for tracing pattern and taking notes Long ruler 6.5 x 24 or close to that Garment scissors and paper scissors Needle and thread for basting or safety pins will do. Rotary cutter and cutting mat, walking foot. Your homework will be to quilt all the pieces of your jacket.

September 17, Session 2, 9:00-300

Sewing machine in good working order. Sewing supplies, coordinating thread, quarter inch foot and walking foot. Small scissors for grading seams to eliminate bulk. In this session we will start to assemble the jacket, we will double check our notches first, making sure the sleeves are notched, if putting on the collar or hood we will need to check this, it is important. If you are putting in a welt pocket, we will need to mark and prep, this isn't hard. I will show you the tips and tricks to make a beautiful welt. If putting patch pockets those will need to be marked also.

September 24, Session 3,

Session 3 is to finish up your jacket. We all don’t sew at the same speed some zip right along, no worries and others will need a little help along the way and others want it perfect and that takes a little more time. We all sew to enjoy the process. This is finishing it day!!

A minimum of three students will be required for this class.  We reserve the right to cancel if this minimum is not met three days prior to the class.
