My Heirloom Sewing Notebook Class

Finally there is an heirloom sewing notebook with extensive instructions for heirloom stitches on your sewing machine.

This book features instructions for 16 heirloom techniques, including hemstitching, puffing, pintucking, and many more.

Included are 5 projects, with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, clear “how-to” illustrations plus color photos of the finished projects.

Upon completion of My Heirloom Sewing Notebook, you will have actual sample pages and a ready reference for the novice or expe-rienced seamstress with heirloom techniques tailored to your specific machine settings.

The final feature is My Heirloom Project where you can take notes and record the settings of your own heirloom projects using tech-niques learned in this book.

The class will be designed around 16 techniques and stitches used in heirloom sewing. You will construct technique samples outlined in an heirloom notebook for you to keep as a reference for your own particular brand machine. Techniques covered will include: lace to lace, lace to fabric, entredeux to fabric, entredeux to lace, puffing, twin needle pintucks, single needle tucks, and bridging (fagoting). Heirloom stitches covered will include machine made entredeux, venetian stitch, pinstitch, and hemstitches and much more. We will have lots of samples for inspirationl

The class will be taught by Kathy Mauthe and Laura Lea Perault, both retired Home Economists with the LSU AgCenter. Kathy is a Bernina licensed Martha Pullen educator.

Cost of the class is $75.00 which includes a 65 page notebook; pre-cut and starched fabric and laces needed for sewing the 16 samples as well as complete instructions for several projects you can make later.

Class will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. You will bring your own sewing machine as well as items from the supply list.

Supplies for Heirloom Notebook Class

Sewing Machine ( do not bring your embroidery unit)

You should bring a machine that has basic stitches ( straight, zig zag) and also has many decorative stitches. You MUST know how to change the stitch width, stitch length, and stitch tension for each stitch on your machine. We cannot spend time teaching basics of individual machines, consult your manual or dealer to know how to do this before class.

Foot control

All accessory feet for your machine ( must have zig zag or general sewing foot, and pintuck foot, optional: edge joining foot, gathering foot, open toe foot)

Universal needle size 70/10 or 75/11
Wing needle size 100/16 Optional: universal size 120/19 ( can replace a wing needle) Twin needle, any size

Your twin needles should slide in the grooves on the bottom of your pintuck foot

Mettler 60 wt. 100°/o cotton fine embroidery thread ( or DMC 50 wt. 100% cotton fine embroidery thread) in any color
Optional: 40 wt. thread ( can be rayon, polyester, etc.) for decorative work
Other Supplies:
Small thread cutting scissors ( straight edge scissors)
Pre-wound bobbins or empty bobbins
Water-soluble marking pen
Small ruler ( 6" is fine)
Bamboo skewer or stiletto
Please bring a lunch and drink.
